Milkshake Contest and other Random Ways to Spend Time in Layton

The 9th Clark Family Milkshake Contest was a beast this year! There were so many fierce competitors and such great ideas that my measly re-make of my favorite mint oreo shake didn't stand a chance! I loved it, but the judges were looking for something more exciting...

After all, I think there were 17 milkshakes to judge! The shakes that made the grade this year were: a fireball shake by Aaron, that tasted exactly like a fireball candy (he won most creative for it); Keylime Pie by Michelle; Coconut Cream Pie by Bryan; and a Chocolate Peanut Butter Dream by Matthew.

I loved my mint oreo shake even if it wasn't creative, I didn't care, I just wanted something that I liked to eat. I am not so competitive as to care about preparing for this contest, as some in the family find it a hobby to concoct different shakes throughout the year in order to place. I have never been one to practice any of the shakes that I have entered in the contest, and I have actually placed three times, so I can't complain. My tried and true, but not creative, ideas are not going to cut it anymore. But frankly, I don't really care. I don't really want to be a judge again. It is a lot of pressure and people get too sensitive about what the judges' say. It is all a matter of opinion and sometimes the best tasting shakes don't score really high on the judge of the years' score card. I'm happy with eating and not having the responsibilities of judging. Next time we are going to be treated with the CA Clarks both judging, that should be interesting!

Here is Michelle creating a culinary confection for first place.... she spent over half an hour on this baby, but it was worth it. I didn't get to taste it, but I'm sure it was fabulous, as with everything Michelle makes! I am happy that she did well.

Nathan making his world famous sausage bread. He made at least 12 loaves this year and they were better than ever. I don't know how he does it but they just get better every year even though you don't think it could be possible when you eat it! He is a great chef, I just wish I could have more of his expertise in our kitchen!

Alisha, our camera woman actually managed to get a picture of herself with my two girls. How sweet.

Aunt Leelee bonding with Lily.

Writing letters to Santa. I was a little annoyed that this happened (while I was in the shower) because we had left all of our presents for the kids in VA and I wasn't excited that they were getting excited about Santa in Utah. I had already purchased all their gifts (things that they had asked for earlier in the season) so, I wasn't exactly impressed when their lists contained none of the things that Santa had already prepared for them, and many things that seem to have fallen into their ears from cousins and commercials in Utah. I love the idea of letting the kids get excited about Christmas and all. I don't want to sound like a bah-humbugger, but when I couldn't provide what they were planning on, I was preparing for the let down on Christmas morning, which I will have to write about later.

We watched the movie ELF while we were there and I had to try writing on the Etch-a-Sketch in cursive, like Buddy the elf. I managed to get "Merry Christmas" but it was pretty pathetic. I guess I am no elf.

One of my favorite pasttimes in Layton is singing at the piano. With Bryan, the professional pianist, we all have a great time singing favorite Christmas songs and musicals. Oh how I love to sing, (but I don't really seem to get to do it very often anymore, so I absolutely love it when I get the chance!)

Helping cut the onions for the sausage bread. I didn't even cry!

I played Risk for the first time and faired pretty well, getting 3rd place. Lily "helped".
