WE had a very nice and low stress Thanksgiving this year. It was definitely different without family around, but we made the best of it. Luckily Nate had the day off and was able to enjoy some time at home and out. He started the day with taking our neighbor Dallas, and 2 boys he home teaches to play in the turkey bowl with the men in our ward versus the Algonkian ward. They seemed to have had a nice time, although it did stress me out when they weren't home by 11 and I had to get the turkey in the oven and needed some help.
It all worked out in the end and the turkey turned out very nicely. I got a 17.5 pounder this year and it has fed us for 3 meals so far and looks to have enough meat for at least 2 more! Nathan made some homemade rolls and I baked some pumpkin bars. The rest of the meal was provided by our neighbors, the Cecils (Dallas, Christine, Jake and Joseph). They have become good friends and live just around the corner, so it was really easy to carry food over and not have to drive anywhere. Kaylie and Jake go to kindergarten together and we see them almost on a daily basis. Going to there home was very nice for Thanksgiving. Christine had decorated very nicely and they made some very yummy stuffing and green bean casserole, as well as purchased some sweet potato casserole and pumpkin pie. The meal was delicious, the company was very nice, and the kids had a great time. It was great to get to know our neighbors better and made for a nice Thanksgiving.
