Back when I was really feeling sick I signed Kaylie and Carter up for a summer camp. I researched for a while before I found our "perfect" option. It was a fishing/hiking all day camp about 20 minutes away for a total of $125 for 3 days (for both kids). At the time it was worth it, now, after the fact, it is something I will definitely rethink next summer. When I dropped them off the first day, the building wasn't at all what I was expecting. It was like a glorified daycare with multiple camps going on at the same time. The kids were super excited and had a great time, but I must say that they did not learn what I intended them to learn from this camp (ie: fishing and hiking). They went "fishing" the first day in a canal/swamp about 100 yards from the building. There were about 14 kids in there camp and they had 4 fishing poles and 4 shovels to share. They had to use the shovels to dig and look for worms. The only problem was that the place was surrounded with big rocks and the rocks were covered in geese feces. Thus, they had no real bait, no real lake (I highly doubt that there are any living fish in that canal), and no bites at all for any kid! Surprise, surprise! I had envisioned a camp that bussed them off to some remote forest with a beautiful lake with plenty of fish and hiking trails. What we got was 90% of their time spent indoors in a small classroom eating the snacks & lunch I provided them with and not learning how to fish or hike! The one glorifying thing about the experience was that it gave Carter much need exposure to life outside of our home. He has never gone to a preschool or day care and with kindergarten looming in the next few months I wanted desperately for him to have some idea of what being away from home would be like. He seemed to handle it well and I was glad that I signed him up to go with Kaylie so he could lean on her for an example of what to do and how to behave. I also got a preview of what it would be like at home with just Lily and Abigail....

Wow! They look like twins!!! It always takes me a minute to figure out who's who since they're almost the exact same size and look so alike! So cute!!
