Day One on the Outer Banks

Our recent vacation to the Outer Banks, North Carolina was a BLAST!!! We stayed with Nathan's Grandpa Feikert again and had a wonderful time. We drove there on a Tues. after getting Kaylie out of school for her last day (we thought it was more important for her to have quality family time rather than finish the last 3 days of 1st grade). We arrived late Tues. night and got a good nights sleep. The rest of the trip was spent mostly outside, swimming, fishing, playing and more swimming.

Lily adores swimming and was eager to jump in, although we never got her to actually jump since the distance from the dock to the water was frightening to her. She did have the nerve however, to climb down on the ladder even when no one else was in the water yet! Stinker!

Abigail trying to get up the guts to get in, Carter still in his pjs, I think it was still pretty early. I chose to opt out of the early morning swim and wait until the sun was out and I was hot!

She loves to float and I think it's pretty adorable

Abigail kindof enjoyed the tube before she got up the nerve to learn how to swim out of our swimming pool..

Grandpa Al really impressed me! He was in the water and playing with the kids with nearly as much energy and enthusiasm as Nate! He does not show his age at all and still walks and swims nearly every day! What a stalwart! He was really fun to have around and I think he loved the kids as much as they loved him! He and Grandma Maggie sure made us feel right at home and very comfortable.

I don't know what they were looking at, but it must have been entertaining

A big thunderstorm started to rumble in the distance during the swim and it didn't seem to phase Nathan or the kids. I was anxious for them to get out of the water and when they finally did it was literally pouring (I don't think this picture really shows the rain as well as I hoped it would.) Before he got out, Nathan had to get one more picture. Many of you will know what this means....

"Rise Up" (not so smart to do in the water during a thunderstorm if you ask me!)
