This morning I woke up with great desires to go garage saling. I have a list of things that we really need (mostly clothes for the kids). I love finding deals and probably get a little too big of a high from saving money. I am addicted to using coupons with sales and buying things for far less than they are worth. Well, today I hit the jackpot. Like most jackpots, it took some patience and effort to find. The kids were really excited to go with me (they love playing with the toys and getting little things out of "free" boxes). We drove around for nearly an hour before I finally just went to a house of a lady I'd arranged with off of craigslist to buy a bike for Carter and a tricycle for Lily. They were really excited about their early birthday presents, and being in that neighborhood led me closer to the jackpot. We drove around without seeing one sign, until I had to backtrack to find "THE ONE". We drove for a while (the signs pointing the way were nearly extinct and poorly placed), nevertheless, because we hadn't found one sale to stop at, I persisted. Boy am I glad that I did! Kaylie and Carter and I got out and I went to the clothes while the kids went to the toys. I found a pile of size 4T boy clothes, exactly what I was looking for for Carter. While I was looking, the lady of the sale said, "All clothes are 6 for a dollar". Then I started piling up the clothes. Next, I found that they had lots of girls clothes size 7 for Kaylie. She's in between a 6-7, but will most likely be wearing the clothes I bought by the time school starts. I bought both of them an entire new wardrobe, plus 4 new pairs of shoes for Carter, two lunch bags, some sunglasses, dress up clothes, exercise clothes for myself, 10 Disney VHS movies, and other sundry things for the lovely price of $14!!!! In all, I purchased over 80 things from them!
The Lord made that sale just for me. I know that He loves me and blesses us financially because we pay our tithing. This is just one example of the things that He does for us for obeying this simple and wonderful law. I am so excited about this concept. I want to shout to the world that if they want to get out of the current economic recession/depression, they should all start paying their tithing! Then maybe they could be as excited about hand-me-downs or garage sale finds and other random simple things in life that make our existence fun and worthwhile.
