Kaylies' funny weekend

This past weekend provided me with some rather memorable moments with Kaylie. First, she was invited to a friends' 6th birthday party. She was really really excited and had asked me when the party was at least 10 times a day all week. When the day finally arrived she could hardly contain herself. She has been invited to 2 boy birthday parties featuring 'Star Wars' but this was her first girl party. She is a tom boy and of course loved the boy parties too, but this party probably took the prize with building her excitement levels. On Saturday, we were watching our friends, The Ercanbracks, kids and her oldest, Kaylee was also invited to the party. I was in charge of bringing them. We left early so that we could go to the store and purchase some birthday presents for Hannah Mitchell, the birthday girl. On our way to the store, both Kaylie's were in the back seat of the van, bouncing with excitement. They were talking and talking and making me laugh. At one point, they both started saying "Hannah Mitchell" really fast and then started laughing as they realized, :"Hey, when we say her name really fast it sounds like Ham mitchell!" Then they kept saying Ham Mitchell, until my Kaylie said, "You know we should probably stop making fun of her name. I don't think she would like us anymore if she heard us." Then Kaylee E. said, "Yah, she probably won't want to be our friend anymore if we call her Ham" or something to that effect. I was laughing and beaming inside. These girls were just too cute for words. I didn't have to say a thing, they knew that making fun of someone was wrong and had the control to stop doing it, even if it was funny!

When we got to the store it seemed to take an eternity for Kaylie to pick the perfect present. She finally opted on some Hannah Montana pens, some Bloonies and some sour gummy worms. She was so happy! When we got to the checkout register, she and her friend were beaming and saying, "I can't wait to see the look in her eyes when she sees what we got her. " "I'm so excited..." An elderly lady in front of us in line turned around and smiled and said, "That is the kindest thing that I have heard in a long time. Someone caring about what someone else thinks. What sweet little girls you are. Thank you for lighting up my day." She went on to say to me that her son doesn't care about anyone but himself. It made me ache for her. She explained to the girls that she sometimes goes to the Elementary School to look at drawings on the walls from the kids. I desperately wanted to adopt her as a grandmother or at least give her a pass along card, but by the time she was finished paying I had to pay and she was gone. The memory is sweet and bitter. I'm glad the girls were able to make her day, and wish I could have done more to make it more than a day.

The girls had a great time at the purse birthday party and it was a fun experience for all.
