I used to love the story about "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"when I was younger, and this past week I've found a reason to go to the library and check it out. I got a call from Kaylie's school nurse at Forest GRove Elementary saying that Kaylie was feeling a sore throat and they were worried she could be coming down with strep and would like me to come and pick her up! This is about the 4th or 5th time I've received such calls, and seeing as how the last time I picked her up when she was "sick" and she came home and acted completely normal and fine, I was hesitant to even go in. However, the nurse didn't seem to leave me a choice, so I reluctantly went. When I got there I could tell this was just another acting job. I said, "Kaylie are you really sick? Does your throat really hurt enough to have to come home?" At that point the nurse looked at me like, "oh, you don't believe her?" Kaylie could tell I was calling her bluff and we all ended up deciding it would be best for her to stay. The nurse said the teacher had taken her temp and it was 98.4, which is obviously no big deal. We were not worried about her being contagious. The only thing contagious about it was that when Kaylie hears other kids talk about things they feel or have going wrong, she suddenly seems to catch it too. This is not the kind of thing I want her to learn during kindergarden, so I was relieved when the nurse agreed to let her stay and stick it out. We told her that the next time her throat hurt, she should drink more water. Today, after church, she casually told me that she was going to drink some water because her throat hurt. I think she just might have learned a lesson!!
